Doorstep callers |

Good morning Resident,
On Monday 14th September, at 20:10 hours we received calls that there were some door step salesman in the ROHILLA CLOSE area. I attended the area and caught up with the salesman and did a document check and verified that they were legit and they were who they said they were. On this occasion they were legitimately in the area. We understand that they were very pushy in their tactics and disrespectful in the way the were talking to residents. On the night I spoke to the salesman about this and I have brought this to their managements attention to address.
Not all doorstep callers are suspicious, some legitimately visit to sell utilities such as internet, gas and electricity, others may be from charities asking residents to sign up to regular donations.
Key Tips for Staying Safe Never open the door to someone you do not know or are not expecting. Use a chain or spyhole to check identity before opening the door. Say "No" to all cold callers; you do not have to be polite. Lock up other outer doors before answering the front door. Display a "No Cold Calling" sign to deter unwanted visitors.
Identifying Scams & Rogue Traders You may get doorstep callers trying to tell you there are problems with your property, whether it’s your roof, driveways or telling you that trees need urgent work. They offer you a low price, then the prices quickly rise. Fake Credentials: They pose as local council workers, police officers, or utility staff. Pressure Tactics: They pressure you into quick decisions or offer to take you to the bank to pay immediately.
Reporting and Legal Information If you feel unsafe: Call 999 immediately. Report suspicious traders: Contact Trading Standards on 0808 223 1133. Right to Cancel: If you agree to services over £42, you have a 14-day cooling-off period to cancel the contract. Before you accept the contract, ensure you don’t waiver the Right to Cancel.
If you are ever unsure and feel unsafe as above, do not be afraid to call 999 immediately.
